The whole school walked up in the morning for a day of activities, including a family picnic! In the morning the children took part in team games, working together with their house teams to gain points to win the trophy! After the morning activities we had a family picnic lunch on the field, followed by competitive races in the afternoon. The children have taken part in all sorts of challenging, yet rewarding activities. Reception and Key Stage 1 children traversed across a pond, canoed down the canal and crawled through caves. Key stage 2 children had to prove their team work whilst, reading maps, climbing and making fires. The whole school (including some teachers)&nbsp;have&nbsp;taken part in fitness circuit,&nbsp;which had&nbsp;four different exercises;&nbsp;spotty dog, press ups, step ups and star jumps. As well as the exercises we cheered other people along helping them to &#39;do their best!&#39; After everyone had worked out,&nbsp;and we had all had lots of fun Chris Tomlinson spoke to use. We heard speeches from PE experts and got some great ideas for our school. The highlight of the day was listening to Olympic Gold Medalist,&nbsp;Darren Campbell share his inspirational story-we even got to hold his gold and silver medals. The sun even shone on us and we walked miles around the ruins of the Roman fort and village. Look at what we found!</p> <p>{gallery:We&rsquo;re going on an invertebrate hunt&hellip;}</p>, 16 Jul 2015 12:33:23 GMTYear 4 at Hyning Hall<p>What an AMAZING time year 4 had a t Hyning Hall.</p> <p>We were all very tired on our return after all the running around we had done (Mr Walton and myself included!).&nbsp; A very big thank you to the Bernadine Sister at Hyning Monastry for their hospitality and wonderful cooking, I can honestly say I have never been so well fed.</p> <p>We were very lucky to have Trisha and Amy from the Castlerigg team with us on Wednesday. They played some games with us and we learnt about the Good News and how to be good disciples. We loved being outside that much that we even did our drama work in the gardens!</p> <p>I am immensely proud of the children; not only for their impeccable behaviour and manners but also because of how well they worked and played together over the three days. The sisters were so impressed they wanted them to stay! The children really were a credit to the school,to their parents and their families. Please join us at 2pm on Wednesday 1st April in the Cathedral for our annual Holy Week meditation on the Passion of Jesus. Boste Class (Year 3) and More Class (Year 5) have been especially hard at work preparing our meditation this year, and all children and staff have been enthusiastically rehearsing the music. As well as showing your support for the children, coming along to our meditation will be a good way for everybody to reflect on the mysteries of Holy Week and the joy of Easter. We looked at one particular part of the story, when Jesus washed the Disciples&rsquo; feet. Then we had a circle time where we heard the story of &lsquo;Jesus in one piece of paper&rsquo; courtesy of Mrs. Parker! Gustav Holst&rsquo;s Mars from The Planet Suite has been our main stimulus. You can listen to it here:</p> <p><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="" width="420"></iframe></p> <p>This morning, the children were given a modest pile of plastic, rubber and wood and were asked to create a vehicle capable of exploring the planet Mars.</p> <p>The children used imagination, conversation, observation and trial and error to solve various problems presented by the resources. Some of the solutions they came up with were ingenious! The challenge was to write a story with no more than one hundred words! It was a difficult competition but lots of people entered and the Creative Writing Club had a hard time judging all of the fantastic writing. The winner for KS1 was Yasin in Barlow Class. The light of the candles signifies the light of Christ, who will come into the world at Christmas. It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved. Luckily nobody got stuck at the top!</p> <p>The staff and climbing club pupils were fantastic, a big thank you to all at OLCC who helped to organise and provide this opportunity for us.</p> http://cathedral.lancs.sch.ukThu, 16 Jul 2015 12:11:52 GMTSportshall Athletics<p>The Sportshall Athletics team have joined the Sportshall league at Lancaster and Morecambe College and have already competed in their first event.</p> <p>On Friday 14th November we went over to LMC by minibus (kindly provided by Skerton Community High School) and competed against St. Wilfreds, St.Lukes Skerton and Wilson&rsquo;s Endowed.&nbsp; Considering it was their first ever event they did amazingly well and had lots of fun. They had to compete in activities such as hurdles, javelin, speed bounce and long jump. The team were a credit to the school exhibiting excellent behaviour and they worked incredibly well together and cheered each other on.</p> <p>They have another 5 events to complete between now and the end of April. We will keep you updated on their progress.</p> <p>A big thank you to the team at LMC for a very well organised event, to the other schools for great competition, to Skerton High School for the minibus, to the parents for coming along and supporting the children and to Mrs McLaughlin for coming with us and cheering the children on!</p> <p>Wish the team luck for their next event on Tuesday 25th November at OLCC.</p>, 16 Jul 2015 12:11:28 GMTThe Word Type Song<p>L.O.
