The Intent of our Art and Design Curriculum
Art and Design at Cathedral Catholic Primary School aims to stimulate creativity, imagination and personal expression. A creative and imaginative curriculum will help children reach their full potential in this subject.
The Implementation of our Art and Design Curriculum
Children develop their understanding of the visual language of art with effective teaching, planned sequences of lessons and experiences of a range or media. Our art and design curriculum provides an opportunity for children to improve their skills in key areas of art and design – drawing, painting, sculpture and electronic media – as well as exploring other techniques and skills. We also spend time learning about and having an appreciation of artists, sculptors, architects and creative individuals from the past and the present.
All this provides the children with an opportunity to develop their ability to make informed judgements as well as practical decisions. Resilience to try again or adapt an idea when things don’t go quite as planned, is another valuable skill that is encouraged when needed.
The Impact off our Art and Design Curriculum
As well as developing as artists and creative thinkers, children will develop the ability to communicate effectively about their own and others’ work, expressing preferences and developing an appreciation of art and design.
