Mrs Beveridge is responsible for Art and Design curriculum in our school.
Art and design teaching at The Cathedral Catholic Primary School provides an engaging, inspiring and challenging course of study that will continue to develop and secure skills to create the children’s own independent works of art and design. It provides a foundation for understanding and exploring the world, and a deeper understanding of art and design by exploring various artists and their impact on culture and history.
Children have opportunities to develop skills in drawing, painting, printing, collage, sculpture, textiles and electronic art. Skills in all these areas are built on and developed as children progress through the school.
As well as using 2D and 3D artistic techniques across a range of materials during lessons, art and design is celebrated during our annual Art Exhibition, where the children's artwork can be framed and purchased. Previous themes have included:
2019 - Love
2018 - Peace
2017 - Home
2016 - Family Tree
Our school also takes part in the Lancaster and Morecambe Primary Schools Arts Trail. Local schools take part in displaying artwork in different locations in Lancaster and Morecambe - in stores, banks, restaurants and shops.
Art after school clubs for Key Stages 1 and 2 run at various times during the year, as well as the Christmas Crafts Club and Little Builders. Plenty of opportunity to be creative!
