The Intent of our Design Technology Curriculum
At Cathedral Catholic Primary School, we intend to provide a Design Technology curriculum which allows the children to express their creativity through designing and making. Children acquire a broad range of knowledge and skills which allows them to make products to solve real life problems considering a variety of criteria. Through Design and Technology, pupils learn to take risks and become resourceful, resilient and innovative.
The Implementation of our Design Technology Curriculum
To ensure that high standards of teaching and learning are taught in design technology, we implement a curriculum that is progressive through the whole school starting from EYFS to build onto prior learning and make links about things previously taught. Children will have access to key knowledge and technical vocabulary to understand Design Technology and to use these skills across the curriculum. In Design Technology children are asked to solve problems by designing products to fit a design brief using a range of tools and materials. An integral part of the design and make process is evaluation which allows children to adapt and improve their product encouraging children to build resilience to try again to solve a problem.
The Impact of our Design Technology Curriculum
At Cathedral Primary School we believe that students deserve a Design Technology curriculum which prepares them for the world they live in. Our curriculum aims to promote and develop resilient, independent, lifelong learners with the abilities to solve problems utilising a range of transferable skills, thus allowing them to access and become a successful and productive member of the wider community.
