The Intent of our History Curriculum

At The Cathedral school, we want children to have a curiosity and understanding of events, places and people in a variety of times and environments. We want to explore the variety of history within our school, local and global communities. This exploration, will allow children to develop a sense of how history effects the present day and they will learn their own value. We want children to have a secure knowledge of and historical skills, asking questions to investigate their topics.

The Implementation of our History Curriculum

At The Cathedral school, we use the national curriculum supported by the use of historical concepts to ensure progression throughout the school. We have also selected other historical topics to help children develop an understanding of our local area. We have 6 substantive concepts that run throughout the school, starting in EYFS. This allows children to build on their prior learning and make links to thinks that have previously been taught. Through the use of artefact sessions, children will ask and answer questions to develop their skills to become curious historians.

The Impact of our History Curriculum

At the Cathedral Catholic Primary School, we want all of our children to transition to high school with a secure knowledge and passion for history. They will have developed the skills to ask questions and think critically about history and have respect for different people, culture and communities.
